For an EU Financial Transaction Tax
Event
A financial transaction tax is one of the main proposals for addressing casino capitalism. It has gathered widespread support throughout Europe, and the European Commission has made a proposal for the tax, but the UK is highly reluctant. None of the major parties is backing the tax.
We would therefore like to invite you to a high level briefing and discussion seminar to talk about the reasons for a tax, why and how the Labour Party as the main opposition should be supporting it and what we can do together to make it a reality.
-----------
The meeting will take place in a Room (TBC) in the House of Commons at 6.00pm – 7.30pm on Tuesday 31st January.
The lead off speakers will be Sony Kapoor of Re-define, a former investment banker turned progressive campaigner on financial issues and David Hillman from Stamp Out Poverty.
The meeting will be chaired by Lisa Nandy MP.
-----------
The meeting is being organised by Compass, European Alternatives and the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung with the support of the European Commission representation in the UK.
